Louis van Gaal had already enjoyed success as a coach when he won the league title in 1996 as manager of Ajax. The Dutchman had a dream finish at Ajax to get to the Champions League final before losing to eventual winners Milan but, that may not have been enough. Louis went on to guide the Red Devils to two further Premier League titles and League Cups.
