Angela Merkel addressed a full crowd of German MPs at the Bundestag on Friday as they elected her a fourth term as Chancellor for a fourth time.

Sporting a fez, Mrs Merkel, 62, greeted thousands of Berliners gathered in Trafalgar Square for the celebrations as head of the grand opposition, the Social Democrats.

She later addressed the Bundestag to give her congratulatory speech.

Mrs Merkel became chancellor in 2005 and is the longest-serving leader in German history.
