A League Cup roundup: a lucky draw for Antonio, Quaner’s flurry and Hamilton revival

West Ham vs Dinamo Zagreb (live)

If the last-16 matchups were a little harsh on the least likely team to make it, this was more like the fair-play tournament.

When West Ham beat Marseille at the weekend to move up to third in the league, it was almost as though they had punched above their weight, because many people were saying that they should have been knocked out, while the French side perhaps should have, too. Well, you’re not getting taken lightly in the Europa League; West Ham will be as tough to beat at home as they are away.

Zagreb, on the other hand, have been a disappointment this season. They beat Dinamo Bucharest 1-0, on 10 September, but since then they have lost all four of their games. They lost 3-1 at home to Austria Vienna and 4-2 at AEK Athens in the group stage, and lost 2-0 away to Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

A trip to London West Ham United and a humdinger of a game in Bilbao or home to a Wolves team who are picking up points without really being at their best. Let’s hope they can see off the pressure.
